CRAB ORCHARD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Raleigh County man has been charged with First-Degree Murder in connection with what was initially reported as a suicide by firearm.
According Sheriff J.C. Canaday of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, on August 23, 2023 at approximately 2:50PM, Deputies with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office responded to residence in the Barnes Mobile Home Park in Crab Orchard for a reported suicide. Deputies learned early in the investigation that the incident had actually transpired as a homicide.
A male, who was later identified as Demarco J. Edwards 32 of Crab Orchard, had been observed fleeing from the scene of the incident by a Trooper with the West Virginia State Police. Edwards was located on foot in the Crab Orchard area.
Detectives with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office have, based on the active investigation, arrested Edwards on charges of First Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony. He is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail pending arraignment.
The victim in the situation has been identified only is a 42 year old female as, at the time of writing, further identifying information is being withheld pending the official notification of her family.
