LEWIS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Lewis County man was arrested Sunday evening after officers say he was driving under the influence with a 10-year-old child inside the vehicle while swerving across multiple lanes on U.S. Highway 19.
According to law enforcement, officers observed a gold 2014 Chrysler 200 traveling north on U.S. 19 near the 1400 block at approximately 7:14 p.m. on April 3, 2026. Troopers reported seeing the vehicle cross the white fog line, nearly strike a guardrail, then cross back over the roadway and into the center yellow line.
Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Steeler Lane and U.S. 19 North.
The driver was identified as Kevin Scott Farnsworth. Troopers also observed a 10-year-old juvenile passenger inside the vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, officers noticed Farnsworth was unsteady on his feet, had bloodshot watery eyes, and smelled strongly of alcohol.
At approximately 7:22 p.m., Farnsworth agreed to take a preliminary breath test, which allegedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of .174.
Officers then conducted field sobriety testing, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Additional tests were not completed after Farnsworth reportedly stated he had medical issues.
Farnsworth was taken into custody and transported to the Lewis County Judicial Annex for processing.
Authorities said he later consented to a secondary chemical breath test after being read West Virginia’s Implied Consent Statement. Officers observed him for 20 minutes before administering the test, which reportedly showed a BAC of .153 at approximately 8:17 p.m.
Farnsworth was later transported to Central Regional Jail pending arraignment.
The incident remains under investigation.
