CABELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A late-night disturbance at a local hotel led to multiple charges for a man who allegedly kicked a police officer after being taken into custody.
At approximately 10:21 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, TPD officers responded to a call about a disorderly man outside the Comfort Inn and Suites on 16th Street Road. According to police, the man, later identified as Brent Dean, was yelling and holding a bottle of alcohol.
Officers found Dean sitting on a bench in front of the hotel with an empty 40-ounce bottle of Steel Reserve. When approached, Dean was reportedly uncooperative during the arrest process—resisting handcuffing, refusing to let go of personal items, and requiring physical assistance to enter the police cruiser.
Police noted that Dean showed clear signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, glossy eyes, and the strong smell of alcohol. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication and obstructing an officer, then transported to Western Regional Jail.
However, at around 11:09 p.m., while awaiting processing inside the jail’s sally port, Dean allegedly walked toward the officer aggressively and stated, “I’m going to show you something, motherf**er.”* The officer attempted to restrain Dean, who then kicked the officer in the upper thigh. Dean lost his balance and fell but was quickly assisted by jail staff. No serious injuries were reported.
As a result, Dean now faces an additional charge of battery on a law enforcement officer.
Jail medical staff cleared Dean for booking. Video evidence from jail surveillance and the officer’s body camera has been submitted to the Ona Field Office as part of the ongoing case.
