PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested in Wood County after being found intoxicated in the middle of a roadway and later resisting officers during his detention.
On March 15, 2025, Patrolman M.D. McMullen encountered Alex Lamar Sollberger standing on the roadway at the 3300 block of Murdoch Avenue in Parkersburg. To ensure his safety, McMullen directed Sollberger to walk with him to Go Mart at 3308 Murdoch Avenue. The officer observed that Sollberger had bloodshot, glossy eyes and appeared unsteady on his feet. He was subsequently placed under arrest for Public Intoxication and Pedestrian in the Roadway.
Upon arrival at the Parkersburg Police Department, Sollberger refused to exit the patrol vehicle. Officers forcibly removed him but faced resistance as he stiffened his body and braced himself to prevent entry into the facility. Officers were then forced to carry him back to the patrol vehicle, where he continued resisting by pushing against officers with his legs. During the struggle, he kicked Patrolman J.M. Brunny multiple times in the leg before officers secured him in the vehicle.
Sollberger was transported to the Wood County Holding Center, where he again refused to exit the vehicle or follow officers’ commands. Correctional officers had to assist him inside, where he continued to resist physically. During the struggle, Correctional Officer Alexis Schafrath sustained a wrist injury caused by Sollberger’s actions.
The defendant faces multiple charges, including Public Intoxication, Pedestrian in the Roadway, Obstruction, and Battery on an Officer.
