WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested on multiple domestic violence charges after a welfare check led deputies to a reported altercation.
Deputy, E.G., Browning responded to the residence after receiving a call from a complainant who had been contacted by a resident of the home. A victim reported a physical altercation between the family and Paul Welch.
Upon arrival, Deputy Browning made contact with the victims outside the residence and noted that the defendant, Paul Welch, appeared extremely intoxicated. One victim stated she had been working at the kitchen sink when the defendant approached her and pushed her against the sink multiple times. Another victim reported intervening to defend her mother when the defendant charged at her with his arms out, appearing as if he intended to place his hands around her neck. She managed to push him away before he could grab her. Both victims also reported that Welch was yelling and throwing laundry baskets during the altercation.
A background check revealed that Paul Welch had a prior conviction for Domestic Battery on February 18, 2025.
