COVEL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wyoming County man was arrested on January 22, 2025, following a domestic violence incident that led to additional charges for drug paraphernalia and firearms possession.
According to a report by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department (WCSD), Cpl. J. Grimmette and Dep. M. Perry were dispatched to a residence in Covel at approximately 7:28 PM after receiving a call regarding a physical domestic altercation.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with Ronnie Coomes, who answered the door. While Dep. Perry interviewed Coomes in the living room, Cpl. Grimmette spoke with the complainant upstairs. Initially, the complainant denied any physical violence during the argument with Coomes, but Grimmette observed red marks on her neck.
The complainant eventually disclosed that Coomes had placed his hand around her neck and pushed her against a wall during the argument. She stated that she had yelled out of a window for a neighbor to call 911. Based on the complainant’s account and physical evidence, Coomes was arrested for domestic battery and strangulation.
While retrieving Coomes’ shoes, Dep. Perry and Cpl. T. Cook observed drug paraphernalia in plain view on a table. Further investigation revealed a firearm in an open drawer near the table. The firearm was collected as evidence.
A review of Coomes’ criminal history revealed a prior felony conviction for receiving or transferring stolen goods on January 26, 2022. Due to his prior felony status, Coomes was also charged with “Persons Prohibited” for possessing a firearm.
The complainant declined to provide a formal statement and refused the option of filing a Domestic Violence Petition. Photographs were taken of the red marks on her neck for evidence.
Coomes was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department for processing, where he now faces multiple charges, including domestic battery, strangulation, and illegal possession of a firearm.
