WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Virginia Beach man was arrested on Sunday, February 9, 2025, after causing a disturbance on Main Street West, obstructing traffic, and allegedly assaulting a police officer.
According to Patrolman S. L. Morris of the White Sulphur Springs Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. when he was flagged down by a passerby near the union hall. The individual reported a suspicious male walking in the middle of the road in front of Gillespie’s, waving his hands and yelling.
Upon locating the man, later identified as Felipe Martinez Jr., officers observed him stopping cars, shouting erratically, and behaving in an agitated manner. As Patrolman Morris approached, Martinez allegedly attempted to open the locked passenger door of the patrol vehicle while continuing to yell statements such as “Kill me” and “Shoot me.”
Efforts to calm Martinez and obtain his identification were unsuccessful. Officers detected the odor of alcohol, and Martinez refused to comply with instructions, repeatedly stepping into traffic. When officers attempted to detain him for safety reasons, he resisted, pulling away and shouting threats. In the process of being subdued, he fell and hit his mouth on the ground.
Patrolman A. Simms arrived to assist, and officers located an identification card in Martinez’s jean pocket. While waiting for EMS to assess him, Martinez continued to resist and was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, where he began kicking the cage and banging his head against it.
EMS arrived on the scene but was unable to assess Martinez due to his continued belligerent behavior. Officers placed him under arrest, charging him with Public Intoxication, Obstructing an Officer, and Two Counts of Battery on a Police Officer. While being transported to the White Sulphur Springs Police Department, Martinez allegedly kicked Patrolman Simms twice.
Following a consultation with Magistrate Stover, officers were advised to transport Martinez directly to Southern Regional Jail (SRJ). While en route, he continued to kick the cruiser cage and bang his head against it. Martinez was booked into SRJ, where he remains in custody pending arraignment in Greenbrier County Magistrate Court.
