WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing charges after giving a false identity and obstructing law enforcement near the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport on Friday.
According to Sgt. J.C. Wetzel of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when the suspect was issued a trespassing warning from the airport at the request of a flight line supervisor. During that encounter, the man falsely identified himself as “Nathan Monclar.”
Shortly after, Sgt. Wetzel spotted the same individual walking dangerously along Airport Road—between the white edge line and the yellow center line—posing a hazard to passing vehicles. Wetzel, in full uniform and operating a marked patrol vehicle, exited and issued multiple loud commands for the man to stop.
The suspect refused, allegedly stating something to the effect of “no” and continuing to walk away. Wetzel caught up to him and placed him under arrest for obstructing an officer after repeated verbal commands were ignored.
A search during the arrest revealed an Arizona identification card matching the man’s appearance. He was positively identified as William T. Cottrill.
Cottrill now faces charges including obstructing an officer, providing false information to law enforcement, and violating pedestrian roadway laws.
