BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – A man has been arrested on several charges- including two counts of possession on a controlled substance with intent to deliver, fleeing a police officer causing property damage, third-offense driving while suspended, and persons prohibited from possessing firearms- following a driving incident in Raleigh County.
A criminal complaint states that on Nov. 7, Raleigh County deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle on Harper Road that was going 10 miles over the speed limit.
The vehicle at first would not stop, but eventually, the driver, Freedom Fortune, did pull over the vehicle and proceeded to throw a loaded handgun and a bag of suspected meth out of the car’s passenger side window. After discarding the items, Fortune drove away.
He turned onto Lake Stephens Road, driving at a high speed. The deputies lost sight of him, but Fortune drove through the marina entrance gate at the lake, knocking over both the gate and a rock pillar.
Fortune then drove off the road and hit a tree before fleeing the scene of the accident. After conducting a search of the abandoned vehicle, officers recovered a sandwich bag containing 49.07 total grams of suspected controlled substances such as meth, heroin and fentanyl.
Fortune is currently being held in South Central Regional Jail without bond.
