HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Summers County man is now the focus of a homicide investigation following the discovery of a man with two gunshot wounds at a Forrest Hill home back on May 21, 2025.
On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 11:48 a.m., West Virginia State Police responded to a welfare check call at a residence along State Route 12. Emergency dispatchers had received concerns about a missing homeowner and a strong odor of decomposition—questions that quickly escalated when officers entered and found a deceased male, later identified as a tenant, with two gunshot wounds to the head.
A search warrant was swiftly obtained and executed the next day, but no weapon or the victim’s cellphone was found on the premises. Crime scene investigators recovered two spent .40-caliber shell casings and one .380-caliber round. Forensic trajectory analysis suggested the victim was shot first while seated, then again after falling to the floor.
Late Thursday night, investigators made contact with a man at a local Hinton convenience store who allegedly had provided the victim with a .380 handgun just days before the homicide. The suspect, identified as Curtis Brian Pack, has a prior robbery conviction and is considered a person prohibited from gun possession.
Further interviews and collected surveillance footage show Pack arriving at the residence the night before the victim was found, after earlier interactions at the convenience store. Investigators also recovered the specific .380 handgun from a third party—described as a Ruger LCP with a laser sight—confirmed by witnesses to have belonged to the victim.
As evidence has surged—including cell phone recordings, third-party accounts, and recovered firearms—Pack has been officially sought on a warrant for first-degree murder. Authorities credit the cooperation of multiple witnesses and the swift efforts of the WVSP crime scene team in advancing the case.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the WV State Police Hinton Detachment.
