RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Raleigh County man is facing a felony charge after troopers say a domestic dispute turned violent, leaving a woman with a severe knife injury.
According to West Virginia State Police, troopers responded around 5:24 p.m. on February 12, 2026, to a residence near the community of MacArthur following a 911 report that Johnny Lovell had stabbed his wife.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found the couple still arguing. Inside the home, troopers observed a trail of fresh blood leading from the kitchen through the living room and into a bedroom. Investigators say the woman suffered a deep laceration to her hand that was bleeding heavily.
Raleigh County deputies transported the victim to Raleigh General Hospital, where officials determined the wound was so severe that bone was exposed.
According to the victim, the defendant had been highly intoxicated, yelling at her and attempting to punch her while threatening to kill her. She told officers she grabbed a steak knife to defend herself, but during a struggle, the defendant took the knife and cut her hand. She later grabbed a second knife to protect herself, which police say resulted in the defendant receiving a minor cut to his own shirt area.
Johnny Lovell has been charged with malicious wounding in connection with the incident. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
