BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man charged in relation to the 2021 shooting-related death of a Woodrow Wilson High School student could see time behind bars following an alleged probation violation.
A hearing to address probation revocation for Rashad Brown in relation to the killing of Dwayne Richardson was set for the afternoon of Monday, February 6, 2023, but was pushed back to a currently indeterminate date due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Brown turned himself in to police at 10:00 the morning of Monday, May 17, 2021, for his role in the death of Dwayne Richardson who was shot and killed earlier that month. Brown was sentenced on Monday, May 16, 2022, after having pled guilty to Accessory After the Fact to Voluntary Manslaughter the month prior.
Judge Dimlich issued a 5-year suspended sentence contingent on Brown’s cooperation regarding the terms of his probation for that period.
Brown is alleged to have since accumulated a felony charge while on supervised probationary release under home confinement, however. This could lead to the converting of the suspended 5-year sentence to a legitimate prison sentence.
Jeriamyah Fortner, who allegedly shot and killed Richardson on May 2, 2021, was arrested in spite of attempts from Brown to hinder the police investigation by providing misleading information.
These attempts led to the issuing of warrants for accessory after the fact to voluntary manslaughter for both Brown and Michael Webb, the latter of whom was taken into custody in Onslow County, North Carolina, on May 11, 2021. The shooter, Fortner, received the maximum sentence of 15 years for his actions at a November 2021 hearing.
LOOTPRESS will continue to provide updates to this ongoing situation as information becomes available.
