(LOOTPRESS) – A Pennsylvania man is facing multiple charges after allegedly killing his mother and transporting her body in her vehicle, concealing it under trash and household items.
According to authorities and local reports, 31-year-old Kevin Ahn has been charged with first-degree murder, assault, and abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of his 61-year-old mother, Hyun Ahn. Her death, which occurred in March in Owings Mills, Maryland, was ruled a homicide caused by strangulation and traumatic brain injury.
Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger confirmed that the murder and assault charges stem from the incident in Baltimore County, where the victim resided. The case came to light on March 24 when Ahn’s estranged sister, who lives in Penn Township, Pennsylvania, contacted police following a disturbing visit from her brother. According to a police press release, Ahn arrived at her home in their mother’s 2022 Toyota RAV4 and was reportedly behaving erratically. Neither his sister nor her husband had expected his visit, as he was described by police as “transient and not generally welcome at the home.”
Upon confronting him, the couple noticed what appeared to be an unresponsive person lying across the rear seat and floor of the SUV, partially concealed beneath boxes, fast food wrappers, and other debris. Authorities later confirmed that the deceased was Hyun Ahn, and that her body had likely been in the vehicle for 30 to 40 hours prior to discovery.
Ahn was initially arrested and charged in Lancaster County with abuse of a corpse. At a preliminary hearing, his defense attorney argued that Ahn had not intended to disrespect his mother’s remains but was grieving in his own way — likening his actions to “dressing up a skeleton.” The lawyer claimed Ahn covered the body “out of respect,” a characterization that law enforcement has not accepted as justification.
