CABELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Joshua Wilson has been sentenced to the maximum penalty under West Virginia law for a July 4, 2024, drunk driving incident that resulted in the death of Cabell Midland student Braxton McComas and severe injuries to Logan McGlothlin.
Judge Sean K. Hammers sentenced Wilson to 3-15 years for McComas’s death and 2-10 years for McGlothlin’s injuries, with the sentences to be served consecutively.
“The tragic loss of Braxton and the lifelong injuries to Logan are a reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving,” said Cabell County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Spears. “Mr. Wilson’s decision that night has permanently affected not only Braxton and Logan’s families but also his.”
Spears praised the work of law enforcement and first responders in bringing the case to a swift conclusion.
He specifically thanked Detective Bobby Minnix, Detective Wes Wright, and the Barboursville Police Department for their investigation. He also commended Cabell County EMS and Barboursville firefighters for their efforts at the scene.
“What these folks see on a daily basis would shake the average citizen to their core,” Spears said. “We are very lucky to have them in our community.”
The case was resolved in less than six months, an unusually short timeframe for a case of this magnitude. Spears credited Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Brandon Morgan and Victim Advocate Emily Lingenfelter for their dedication.
“Having a team like Emily and Brandon at the helm of this case was the key to justice for Braxton and Logan,” Spears said. “Thanks to them, the families can begin to heal.”
Wilson is now in the custody of the West Virginia Department of Corrections.
