RALEIGH COUNTY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – On Wednesday, Charles Yancey of Raleigh County was sentenced to three to 15 years in prison after crashing his car while under the influence of Marijuana and Suboxone. The crash occurred in Odd, West Virginia, in January of 2019.
Two backseat passengers were injured in the crash, and Yancey’s front seat passenger and fiancé, Crystal Wood, was killed. According to a press release, Yancey, who was not injured in the crash, was speeding when he ran off the road and hit a tree.
According to the criminal complaint, Yancey did not have insurance, registration or a driver’s license at the time of the accident. He was charged with DUI resulting in Death, DUI with Serious Bodily Injury, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Death.
Yancey was sentenced by Judge H. L. Kirkpatrick. According to Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Ben Hatfield, who handled the case, Yancey is now in Division of Corrections (DOC) custody.
