CHELYAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man sustained injuries after being struck by a vehicle while trying to board a bus on Tuesday.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at around 6:45pm, Deputies responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of MacCorkle Avenue SE and the Lopez Bridge access ramp in Chelyan.
Deputies determined that a 39-year-old victim had crossed the intersection in an attempt to board a KRT bus which was stopped at a traffic light within the intersection and preparing to turn left.
Reports indicate attempts having been made by the driver to wave the pedestrian away, as drivers do not board or unload passengers from traffic lanes which do not have shoulder access or when safety is a risk. The pedestrian had already entered the eastbound traffic lane, however, and was struck by a vehicle traveling east as he was trying to get to the bus.
The pedestrian was transported to CAMC General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his back and legs, and the driver remained on-scene along with the KRT bus driver who witness the ordeal.
