BELLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after threatening suicide and telling police he would fight them if they didn’t let him “sh**.”
According to a criminal complaint, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, around 3:09 AM, law enforcement responded to a suicidal thoughts complaint at a residence in Belle.
Upon arrival, the male in question, 49-year-old Nicholas Stephens of Belle, had reportedly threatened suicide by cop.
Medics attempted to engage Stephens regarding his suicidal thoughts but faced verbal aggression.
The situation escalated when he was denied further alcohol, becoming hostile towards officers and deputies present.
When medics briefly left to fetch a gurney, he threatened to fight police if they didn’t “let him take a sh**.”
He then charged at an officer, leading to physical restraint.
Despite attempts to calm him, he remained combative, necessitating the use of pain compliance techniques for detainment, according to the complaint.
Stephens was eventually restrained, handcuffed, and transported to an ambulance, where he continued to exhibit aggressive behavior, including spitting at police.
Stephens was arrested and charged with Malicious Assault.
He is currently at South Central Regional Jail on a $1,500 bond.
