ELKVIEW, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) is investigating the discovery of human remains near Young’s Bottom, located in the 5300 block of Elk River Road.
The remains were reported on November 29, 2024.
According to authorities, a man walking in the area on November 28 noticed bones over a hillside.
Initially believing they were animal remains, the man returned the following day to take a closer look and realized the bones were human.
Detectives have spent several days at the scene, working to identify the remains and uncover the circumstances of the death.
Preliminary findings suggest the remains are those of a female and that the death may have occurred around September 8, 2024.
However, the KCSO noted that these details are based on active investigations and will need confirmation from the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The KCSO has asked the public for assistance. Residents with surveillance footage or information about suspicious activity near the area during the specified time are encouraged to come forward.
