CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — The West Virginia Republican Party announced Tuesday that Marion County has officially shifted to a Republican majority in voter registration, becoming the 48th county in the state where Republicans outnumber Democrats.
West Virginia GOP Chairman Matt Herridge issued a statement celebrating the milestone, citing it as further evidence of the state’s ongoing political realignment.
“As recently as 2016, Democrats held pluralities in nearly 50 counties,” Herridge said. “Today, that trend has reversed, with Republicans now leading in nearly every county.”
Herridge credited the shift to voter dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party and emphasized the GOP’s commitment to conservative values and economic growth.
The Republican Party remains the fastest-growing political party in West Virginia, according to state registration data.
