HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In an initiative to make higher education more accessible, Marshall University has introduced a new class of students to Cabell County Commitment, a partnership with Cabell County Schools.
This program guarantees direct admission to Marshall University for any graduating student from Huntington High School, Cabell Midland High School, and the Cabell County Career Technology Center who maintains a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
The partnership, aimed at removing barriers to education, was met with enthusiasm as university representatives spoke with local high school students.
Brad Smith, Marshall University President, spoke about the program’s benefits for prospective students, highlighting its streamlined approach.
“This program eliminates the traditional application process, providing a seamless and stress-free transition for students pursuing a four-year degree,” Smith said.
“The end goal is to help students transition to college with as few hurdles as possible, which helps our community and state build a more educated workforce.”
The Cabell County Commitment has already made hundreds of students eligible for direct admission, and further expansion is anticipated.
The program aligns with Marshall University’s mission of ensuring educational access for all students, promoting both personal growth and economic opportunity.
“Cabell County Schools is excited to continue this Cabell Commitment partnership with Marshall University that provides all Cabell County students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher to be automatically accepted into Marshall University without the application process requirements,” said Cabell County Schools Superintendent Tim Hardesty.
“This commitment by Marshall University will allow our students to have a direct pathway to an education that will lead to their personal growth, education and prosperity as they become part of a great institution. We are Marshall!”
