MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Operations at the Laurel Fork coal mine in Berwind, McDowell County, have been halted, resulting in layoffs for more than 30 employees.
Ramaco Resources informed workers of the layoffs on Friday, September 5.

The layoffs took effect immediately, though it is not yet clear how long the employees will remain out of work.
We have reached out to Ramaco Resources for more information and the exact number of employees laid off.
In an announcement on Monday, Ramaco Resources declared a dividend of $0.1918 per Class B share.
Shareholders of record as of September 5 will receive the payout on September 19, primarily in the form of additional stock, with smaller portions distributed as cash.
The mine’s closure comes amid ongoing challenges in the coal industry, which has seen multiple layoffs across the region in recent years.
