MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A domestic disturbance on Thursday, July 10, led to the arrest of a McDowell County man after deputies say he brandished a knife and was later found with suspected crack cocaine.
Deputies with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint at a residence on Confection Street in Hempill, where they encountered Steven Hicks behaving aggressively. According to deputies, Hicks’ mother was attempting to calm him down when officers arrived.
Deputies say Hicks admitted to pulling a knife during an argument with his wife, Sara Hicks, and his mother-in-law, Margaret Toth. Both women told investigators they feared for their safety during the incident.
After taking Hicks into custody, deputies secured his vehicle at his request. While doing so, Sgt. Perry reportedly observed a baggy containing a white chalky substance in plain view on the vehicle’s console. A further search uncovered a knife believed to have been used in the incident and a pipe commonly associated with drug use.
Authorities believe the substance is crack cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance. Hicks is now facing multiple charges related to the domestic disturbance and drug possession.
