WELCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – McDowell County Schools has announced a zero-tolerance policy with regard to actions deemed inappropriate and directed toward spectators, student athletes, administrators, and officials at school sporting event functions in the county.
McDowell County Schools Superintendent, Dr Ingrida Barker made the announcement on Monday of this week, indicating that any individual exhibiting the aforementioned behavior at a school sporting event will be subject to a 365-day ban from all school functions, including but not limited to sporting events.
“We ask everyone to please support our student-athletes in a manner that promotes sportsmanship, respect, and pride in schools,” said Dr. Barker in a statement regarding the new zero-tolerance approach. “Let’s come together to ensure all of our events are enjoyable and safe for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
The West Virginia High School Athletic Association rules and regulations handbook indicates that, “it shall be the responsibility of a member school to use every means at its disposal to impress upon its faculty, student body, team members, coaching staff, and officials the values of sportsmanship in preparation for the conduct and management of interscholastic contests.”
