WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Residents across the region should prepare for wintry weather Friday into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
Light snow may fall in the mountains early Friday morning before drier conditions settle in later in the day.
However, another weather system is expected to bring a mix of precipitation to the area on Friday.
In the mountains, snowfall is likely, with accumulations ranging from 1 to 4 inches, and some localized areas could see even higher totals.
In the lowlands, precipitation will likely begin as snow before transitioning to rain by Friday afternoon.
A cold front moving through late Friday afternoon will cause temperatures to drop, forcing rain to turn back into snow.
Light snow accumulations of less than an inch are possible in the lowlands Friday night into Saturday morning.
Snow showers are expected to taper off by midday Saturday. Following the cold front, temperatures are forecast to drop significantly over the weekend.
Travelers are advised to exercise caution as road conditions may become slick, particularly in the mountains and during the overnight hours.
