PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Mercer County Commission has joined counties across the nation in honoring America’s veterans through the National Association of Counties’ Operation Green Light initiative.
Commissioner Greg Puckett announced Tuesday night that from now until November 11, Mercer County will participate in Operation Green Light to “thank our veterans and also remember those that have gave so much for our country.”
Puckett encouraged residents and businesses to take part in the tribute.
“I also challenge every constituent to find a green light and use it at your home or business to join in this effort,” he said. “Thanks to all of our veterans! Please share use the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.”
During its last meeting, the Mercer County Commission approved a resolution officially designating November 4–11, 2025, as Operation Green Light for Veterans Week in Mercer County.
The proclamation expresses gratitude for the men and women who have “selflessly served our country and this community in the Armed Forces” and recognizes their vital role in preserving freedoms and supporting fellow veterans.
The resolution also highlights the ongoing challenges many veterans face when transitioning to civilian life, noting that “44–72 percent of service members experience high levels of stress during transition” and that the first year after military service poses a heightened risk for suicide.
The county reaffirmed its support for mental health efforts and encouraged those in crisis to call or text 988 for help.
As part of the observance, the Mercer County Courthouse will be illuminated in green throughout the week to honor local veterans.
Citizens are also encouraged to participate by displaying green lights at their homes or businesses and to share their support on social media using the hashtags #OperationGreenLight and #MercerCountyWV.
The resolution was signed October 28, 2025, by Commission President Bill Archer and Commissioners Brian Blankenship and Greg Puckett.
