PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In light of recent flooding events across the region and the nation, the Mercer County Office of Emergency Management is reminding residents about the importance of receiving timely weather alerts.
While weather radios have long been a reliable source for receiving watches and life-saving warnings, emergency officials note that the technology is aging and not as widely used as it once was.

Today, most people carry a more powerful tool in their pocket: a cell phone.
Officials are encouraging residents to ensure that emergency alerts are enabled on their mobile devices.
The National Weather Service has the ability to send out wireless emergency alerts directly to cell phones when weather warnings are issued—day or night.
Emergency officials urge the public to remain alert and prepared, especially during periods of heavy rain or fast-changing weather conditions.
