MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Mercer County man is facing multiple criminal charges after deputies say he sparked a violent disturbance at a Glenwood mobile home park, damaged property, assaulted individuals, and later threatened law enforcement officers and hospital staff.
According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to 232 Crawford Street in the Glenwood area shortly after 12:30 a.m. on May 29 following reports of a fight in progress. Dispatchers advised responding officers that a male wearing a white Nike shirt and a backward black flat-bill hat had allegedly struck a woman in the face with a pistol.
When deputies arrived, they immediately detained a man matching the description while securing the scene. No firearm was located during an initial frisk.
Investigators then made contact with Jason Bailey, who deputies said had been involved in a physical altercation. According to the report, Bailey was highly agitated, yelling obscenities and refusing repeated commands to calm down while officers attempted to investigate. Deputies noted that Bailey appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and possibly another substance, displaying slurred speech, glassy eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol.
Victim Danielle Simpson told deputies the incident began when Bailey repeatedly drove past her residence revving his vehicle’s engine and yelling. She said her boyfriend, Mark Davis, had recently arrived home when Bailey stopped and asked them to come outside to talk.
According to Simpson, Bailey became aggressive and began throwing wrenches toward her and Davis. She said Bailey’s sister, Joannda Bailey, arrived and attempted to intervene, but the confrontation escalated into a physical fight. Simpson told deputies that Bailey broke a window at her residence and damaged the taillight of her vehicle during the disturbance.
Mark Davis provided a similar account, telling deputies that Bailey arrived at the residence yelling and cursing. Davis said he and Simpson initially retreated inside and locked the door, but Bailey allegedly shattered a window while attempting to gain access to the home.
Davis told investigators he later confronted Bailey outside and attempted to push him away from the residence. During the altercation, Bailey allegedly swung a baseball bat, and Davis believed Joannda Bailey may have been struck during the fight. He also reported that wrenches were thrown during the confrontation.
Deputies documented damage to Simpson’s white Ford Explorer, including a broken taillight and paint damage. They also observed a shattered window at the residence. Investigators recovered a pair of vice grips from the front porch that allegedly contained white paint transfer consistent with the damaged vehicle. A baseball bat was also recovered near Bailey’s residence and collected as evidence.
Because initial reports alleged that Mark Davis had struck Joannda Bailey with a pistol, investigators conducted a separate inquiry into those claims. Davis denied owning or using a handgun during the incident but advised officers that his mother may have left a firearm inside a pickup truck he shared with her.
After receiving consent to search the vehicle, deputies located a Glock 21 Gen 5 .45-caliber handgun. Investigators reported finding no signs that the firearm had been used during the altercation. The weapon was seized as evidence and will be submitted to the West Virginia State Police Crime Lab for DNA testing.
Bailey was subsequently arrested and transported to Princeton Community Hospital for medical clearance and treatment of injuries allegedly sustained during the fight.
Authorities said Bailey’s behavior became increasingly aggressive once he arrived at the hospital.
According to the report, Bailey repeatedly screamed and cursed at healthcare workers. Hospital security officer Paul Pennington responded to assist staff and deputies. While being escorted to a patient room, Bailey allegedly attempted to kick Pennington in the face.
Deputies further reported that Bailey repeatedly lunged toward officers while at the hospital, causing them to fear being assaulted. He allegedly threatened officers multiple times, telling them he “couldn’t wait to catch them out of uniform” and challenging them to remove their uniforms so he could “beat” them.
Bailey also allegedly spit on the hospital floor, prompting officers to place a spit hood on him.
After receiving medical clearance, deputies said Bailey refused to cooperate when being escorted back to a patrol vehicle and had to be physically assisted.
The aggressive behavior reportedly continued during processing at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators say Bailey repeatedly threatened deputies and lunged toward Service Coordinator B.A. Steele in a threatening manner while gritting his teeth, causing concern that an assault was imminent.
Following processing, Bailey was transported to Southern Regional Jail, where he remained pending arraignment.
Authorities said Bailey is facing multiple charges related to the disturbance, property damage, threats, and his actions toward law enforcement officers and hospital personnel.
The investigation remains ongoing.
