PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A violent domestic incident in Mercer County has left one man dead, a woman hospitalized, and another man behind bars facing serious charges.
Authorities say the altercation unfolded just after midnight Wednesday at a residence on Cheyenne Lane in Princeton. Mercer County deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman claiming she and her husband had been stabbed by a male relative. Dispatchers were also speaking to the accused, who said he had put down two knives and was waiting outside for law enforcement.
When deputies arrived, they found 26-year-old Joshua Hubinak sitting on the tailgate of a truck, covered in blood. He complied with officers’ commands and was detained without incident.
Inside the home, officers discovered a gruesome scene: a man later identified as Michael Hubinak lying face down in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds, including to his throat, face, and hands. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nearby, Michael’s wife — who had suffered a severe laceration to her arm — was found lying on her back and screaming for help. A deputy applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding before EMS arrived and transported her to Princeton Community Hospital.
After the scene was secured and evidence was collected, deputies interviewed Joshua Hubinak at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. He told investigators that an argument had erupted between him and his father over issues at work. According to Joshua, the confrontation escalated when his father allegedly brandished a firearm. In response, Joshua said he pulled a knife.
Joshua admitted to stabbing his father multiple times during the struggle. He also acknowledged that his mother was wounded during the altercation. He claimed that after initially stepping away, he returned and fatally slit his father’s throat before fleeing the residence.
Deputies say 29 items were collected from the crime scene as evidence. Joshua Hubinak now faces charges related to the stabbing death of his father and the injury of his mother. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
This incident is being handled by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.
