SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Greenbrier River is nearing crest levels in parts of Summers County, leading to minor flooding and several road closures, according to a 9 a.m. update from Summers County 911.
At Alderson, the river is near its crest at 15.3 feet and is expected to begin receding soon.
Meanwhile, at Hilldale, the river is currently at 18.48 feet and still rising, with a projected crest of around 19.2 feet between noon and 1 p.m.
These levels are classified as “minor” flooding.
As a result, the following roads are currently closed:
- Willowwood Road (2000 block)
- JW Whanger Road (lower end)
- Lowell Back Road
- Bill Purdue Road
- Kellers Creek Road
- Steel Driving Lane campground in Pence Springs
- Route 3 and 12 near Alderson
Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads, warning that water levels can be deceiving and road conditions may be unstable.
“Please do not attempt to drive through flooded roads. You may think it’s not that deep, but the road may not be there anymore,” officials cautioned.
