According to the latest voter registration numbers, out of 65,843 total registered voters, Monongalia County now has:
- 22,670 registered Republicans
- 22,468 registered Democrats,
- 20,705 registered as Unaffiliated/Independent
This achievement reflects years of dedicated grassroots organizing, strong local leadership, and growing support for Republican policies across the region.
WVGOP Chairman Josh Holstein:“Today’s news out of Monongalia County is yet another sign of the continued realignment happening across West Virginia. Voters are choosing Republican leadership because they’ve seen real results—economic growth, safer communities, and a commitment to common-sense values. This milestone is a testament to the hard work of our local party leaders and volunteers who have stayed focused on delivering for their neighbors.”
Dale Sparks, Chairman, Monongalia County Republican Executive Committee:“It’s a great day in Monongalia County. Many Republicans here have worked for years toward this milestone, and today we’re seeing the result—our county now has more registered Republicans than Democrats, possibly for the first time since the Great Depression.
I’m grateful to serve as chairman at this moment, but the credit belongs to the people who made it happen. Our committee has worked tirelessly to recruit and elect strong leaders, support our communities, and ensure fair and honest elections at every level.
We’re proud to lead by example in Monongalia County and North Central West Virginia, and we remain committed to improving the quality of life for every family in our community.”
The West Virginia Republican Party also recognizes the hard work and leadership of Senator Mike Oliverio, Delegate David McCormick, Delegate Geno Chiarelli, Delegate Joe Statler, along with county party leadership and local Republican volunteers across Monongalia County. Their commitment to conservative principles, grassroots organization, and voter engagement played a critical role in helping deliver this historic Republican victory in Mon County.
The WVGOP emphasized that Monongalia County’s shift is part of a broader statewide trend, with Republicans now leading in voter registration in 52 of West Virginia’s 55 counties as more West Virginians continue to align with Republican leadership at the local, state, and federal levels.
