FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A mother and daughter were arrested Friday evening after a domestic disturbance turned violent in Layland, Fayette County.
According to the West Virginia State Police, Senior Trooper Ferris responded to a call from the Fayette County 911 Center at approximately 4:54 p.m. on October 24, 2025, regarding a domestic incident on Raynes Hollow Road.
When Trooper Ferris arrived, he found a person rendering aid to Ann Raynes-Calvert, who had sustained a head injury. Raynes-Calvert told the trooper that her daughter, Haylei Mathis, had attacked her.
Trooper Ferris detained Mathis and provided medical assistance to Raynes-Calvert, who reported that her daughter had hit and bitten her during the altercation. Raynes-Calvert also claimed Mathis had been drinking alcohol while driving, crashed into a ditch, and became increasingly aggressive after returning to the residence. Two young children, ages five and one, were reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Witness statements from two people supported the account that a violent confrontation occurred inside and outside the home. Both adults described a chaotic scene involving multiple assaults between family members. One witness told police she separated the parties several times before calling 911 and ensuring the safety of the children.
A child witness also told police she saw Mathis drinking earlier at a store and confirmed that Mathis was driving when the vehicle wrecked.
Trooper Ferris noted that both Mathis and Raynes-Calvert smelled strongly of alcohol. Both women were photographed for their injuries, as well as the damage to the vehicle.
Haylei Mathis and Ann Raynes-Calvert were arrested and transported to the West Virginia State Police Oak Hill Detachment for processing.
