WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wyoming County mother charged child neglect after her 3-year-old overdosed.
According to Wyoming County deputies, on August 25, 2021, a call was made about a 3-year-old that had overdosed. According to a complaint, the child took an unknown number of Clonidine, a medication prescribed for night terrors and behavior. The child was found by his mother, Alyssa Marie Tuggle. He was unresponsive and lying next to the bottle of pills.
The child was taken to the hospital and later transferred to CAMC Women’s and Children’s hospital. The child was in respiratory failure.
When deputies asked the mother what happened, she said she went outside to smoke, and her son must have crawled up the counter and got the pills. When she came in, he was on the floor unresponsive, and pills were scattered. She said that they were out of his reach. Another witness who was at home at the time told deputies that story was not valid. The witness said that the medicine was not up and was left out.
During a second interview with Tuggle, she continued with her original story but changed it. She said she remembered leaving the pills out on the pill cutter where he could have easily accessed them.
Tuggle has a prior incident where her 2-year-old daughter got into her brother’s medication back in April of 2021 in North Carolina.
Tuggle is charged with child neglect and is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 5,000 dollar bond.
