WELCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A mother is in jail after she cussed her child, called the child a whore, hit the child, and threw the child to the ground at a McDonald’s parking lot.
On August 4, 2024, around 8 pm, a deputy responded to a disturbance at the McDonald’s parking lot in Welch. Witnesses say Candace Zachary was screaming at her child, calling her a whore, and cussing at her. The witness advised that Zachary tried to hit the child and threw the child to the ground.
When two bystanders tried to help, Zachary began yelling and threatening them. She then left and went to the Save-A-Lot in Welch, where two deputies from McDowell County found her. In the store, she became aggressive while the deputies questioned her.
Zachary was arrested and faced charges of child abuse, disorderly conduct, and assault. She is currently held in Southwestern Regional Jail with a cash-only bond of $3,600.
