WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – At around 8:30 a.m., a pickup truck collided with a West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) mower on Interstate 79 near the Stonewood and Nutter Fort exit.
As a result of the collision, both the driver of the truck and the mower operator sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to the hospital by HealthNet.
Additionally, the driver of a third vehicle was also injured. The northbound lanes of I-79 remained closed as of 9:30 a.m. In response to this incident, the WVDOH is reminding all motorists to be attentive while driving, especially when passing through work zones.
It is emphasized that five people lost their lives in work zone accidents on West Virginia highways in 2023, and in the previous year, there were 800 work zone-related crashes in West Virginia, resulting in eight fatalities and 276 injuries.
