CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Devon Lee Underwood, 58, of Mount Hope, was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 25 years in prison for sex crimes, according to the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Underwood pleaded guilty on September 16, 2024, to Third-Degree Sexual Assault and Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian, or Person of Trust to a Child.
The case stemmed from a complaint received by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office on February 2, 2024, regarding the sexual assault of a juvenile in the East Bank area.
According to court documents, the victim disclosed the abuse during an examination at the Child Advocacy Center.
Underwood later confessed to the allegations during an interview with investigators.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alan Nichols handled the case before Circuit Judge Tera Salango.
The Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office praised the Sheriff’s Office for its professionalism in handling the investigation.
