WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Emergency crews responded to multiple water rescues overnight after flash flooding swept through parts of southern West Virginia following repeated rounds of heavy rainfall Monday.
Rescue operations were underway in both Boone and Logan counties as rapidly rising streams and creeks flooded roads, homes and other low-lying areas.
The flooding developed overnight as heavy rain moved across the region, prompting emergency responders to assist residents trapped by rising water.
According to the National Weather Service, widespread rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches were recorded across Mingo, Logan, Boone and Raleigh counties, leading to dangerous flooding conditions.
Flood warnings remained in effect for multiple locations across southern West Virginia throughout the night as waterways continued to rise.
Travel also became hazardous across the region.
According to West Virginia 511, numerous roadways in southern West Virginia are impacted by high water, downed trees and mudslides, creating dangerous driving conditions and prompting officials to urge motorists to avoid flooded roads.
