OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Oak Hill has officially unveiled its newest recreational attraction with the grand opening of Needleseye Park, providing residents and visitors a new destination for outdoor adventure.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon, drawing local, state, and federal leaders to celebrate the completion of the long-anticipated project.
The new park features multi-use trails designed for hiking, running, and mountain biking, along with a disc golf course and areas designated for rock climbing.
Delegate Elliott Pritt (R-Fayette), who represents Oak Hill in the West Virginia House of Delegates, praised the collaboration that made the project possible.
“I want to thank the City of Oak Hill and all local, state, and Federal partners for doing all the hard work it took for Needleseye Park to finally be completed. It took a lot of effort and teamwork from many groups to make it happen,” Pritt said.
“Today was the ribbon cutting; it is completed! Needleseye side has been totally repaved, and the Terry Avenue side is next (probably in the Spring). Bring your families out to enjoy a beautiful hike, bike ride, or rock climb (if that is your thing).”
Former U.S. Senator Joe Manchin also attended the ceremony, noting that during his time in office, he helped secure federal funding for the park’s development.
“It was a pleasure to be in Oak Hill today for the Needleseye Park grand opening celebration. As a U.S. Senator, I was proud to secure funding for this park, which opens up new opportunities for mountain bikers, climbers, disc golfers, hikers, trail runners and more to enjoy our beautiful state, and further builds on the growing outdoor recreation economy in Fayette County,” Manchin said.
“Announcements like this are the reason I am so proud to have worked to protect and conserve our public lands and share our wild and wonderful way of life with all Americans.”
Located at 655 Needleseye Road in Oak Hill, the southern trailhead of Needleseye Park features a detailed map, restrooms, and convenient access to the park’s full range of recreational amenities.
