KENNA, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A disturbing case of animal neglect is under investigation after the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department discovered a dead dog and another malnourished one left in filthy conditions at a rural Kenna property.
On May 8, 2025, deputies responded to a complaint about animals being abandoned at 1811 Dog Fork Road. The caller reported that the property’s owner, Jaimie Wells, had moved away over a year ago, leaving multiple dogs behind without care. The caller also noted one of the dogs was already dead.
Deputies initially located one living dog and one deceased, but darkness limited visibility. The next day, May 9, deputies returned with a search warrant and conducted a full inspection of the property. They found a single live dog confined in a kennel with dirty water, no food, and no food bowl, and a second dog that had clearly starved to death—believed to have been dead for over a month.
Authorities seized the surviving dog and left a copy of the search warrant and seizure notice at the property. According to deputies, the animals had likely gone a year or more without human contact, enduring extreme neglect.
Records show this isn’t the first concern at the address. Since 2015, the Sheriff’s Office and local animal shelter have received numerous complaints ranging from loose dogs to neglected horses. In past cases, the owner provided veterinary letters stating the animals were in acceptable condition.
