MOUNT STORM, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Dominion Energy has announced plans to construct a new natural gas power plant at Mt. Storm that will operate alongside the existing coal-fired power plant, bringing thousands of jobs and a significant economic boost to West Virginia.
According to project information released Monday, the investment is expected to create more than 1,400 construction jobs and support a total of 2,490 jobs statewide.
The project is also projected to generate approximately $400 million in statewide economic activity during construction and about $259 million in annual local economic output for Grant and Tucker counties.
Once the plant is operational, it is expected to support nearly 150 permanent jobs and generate approximately $950 million in tax revenue for Grant County during its first 36 years of operation.
U.S. Senator Jim Justice praised the announcement, calling it another example of West Virginia’s leadership in energy production.
“I’ve been saying it since the beginning: energy is the lifeblood of West Virginia. Dominion Energy’s investment in a state-of-the-art natural gas plant cements our position as America’s energy leader,” Justice said.
“Under the Trump administration’s America First energy vision, we aren’t just participating in the national energy renaissance—we’re driving it. This project brings thousands of high-paying jobs and bolsters our grid with reliable, affordable power. We are proving once again that when America needs power, West Virginia delivers.”
