HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The owner of Hinton’s “Grandma’s House” antique store, Margie Temple is looking to pass on the legacy of the local shop as she prepares for her much-deserved retirement.
For over two decades, “Grandma’s House” has served as a community cornerstone nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains.
Temple’s journey began with selling fried apple pies and varied collectables at the Pence Springs flea market while raising a family and navigating employment on a full-time basis.
Upon the conclusion of her career with a local hospital in 2006, Temple turned a knack for sales and a love of antiques into her very own local storefront.
The new owner will have an opportunity to expand upon a beloved local tradition and to develop a business with established and substantial community roots. New River Gorge Regional Development Authority’s entrepreneurship program, WV Hive has indicated plans to assist in a smooth transition for the business.
“Margie’s shop is more than a business; it’s a destination,” said WV Hive Executive Director and New River Gorge Regional Development Authority Deputy Director, Judy Moore. “Keeping Grandma’s House alive is vital, not just for preserving a local land ark, but for maintaining an essential part of Hinton’s tourism appeal. The store’s charm and unique offerings have always been a favorite among visitors, and it plays a crucial role in the town’s economy.”
As part of the sale of the store, all the shop’s inventory is being offered, meaning the new owner will be able to provide for customers and operate on day-one with a fully stocked store. Temple herself has stated that she is willing to assist in the transition for the new owner as well.
“I just want to see it go to someone who loves it as much as I have; someone who understands that this place is more than just a business; it’s part of the community,” she says. “As a business owner, I have made community service a priority.”
