OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Thousands of dollars were recently raised in a Penny Drive at New River Primary School in Oak Hill for Lavista tornado victims.
According to Fayette County Schools, the 1st-grade team at New River Primary recently held a Penny Drive to raise money for Fayette County students and families affected by the April 2nd EF2 tornado.Â
New River Primary raised a whopping $6,000 in the Penny Drive.Â
Deputy Chief of the Nuttall Volunteer Fire Department Rick Lewis was presented with the check by New River Primary students.Â
The EF2 tornado destroyed multiple homes in the Lavista area and caused extensive damage to multiple others.
It was the fourth tornado in Fayette County history and the first for that part of the county.Â
