NICHOLAS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Nicholas County Board of Education is clarifying transportation changes affecting middle and high school students who choose to attend a school outside their designated attendance area.
Students will continue to have the option of attending Nicholas County High School, Summersville Middle School, Richwood High School or Richwood Middle School regardless of where they live in the county. However, transportation arrangements are changing for students attending outside their assigned area.
School officials said the changes are being made because of identified inefficiencies with current bus routes.
Under the new arrangement, Gauley River Elementary and Panther Creek Elementary will serve as designated pickup and drop-off locations for affected students.
In the mornings, families will be responsible for transporting students to either Gauley River Elementary or Panther Creek Elementary. Students will then board a bus to their school in Richwood or Summersville.
In the afternoons, students will be transported back to the designated elementary school, where families will be responsible for picking them up.
The change applies only to middle and high school students who choose to attend Nicholas County High School, Summersville Middle School, Richwood High School or Richwood Middle School outside their designated attendance area.
Students attending the school assigned to their attendance area will continue to receive transportation through their regular bus routes.
The Nicholas County Board of Education said it understands the changes may require adjustments for families and thanked them for their cooperation as the district works to provide safe and efficient transportation.
