CLIFTON FORGE, VA (LOOTPRESS) – Two railroad historical societies have come together for a joint book sale to share a significant inventory of published histories that tell the story of America’s development.

The railroad-history organizations from southwest Virginia, the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society and the Norfolk & Western Historical Society, will partner for the very first time for an event to share the railroad heritage of America. Scheduled for December 7, 2024, the book sale held the two non-profit organizations will feature titles which cover nearly every railroad throughout the nation.

Featured titles will be available at wholesale pricing for the most part as part of the event, with many hardbound books being offered for as low as ten dollars each. The event will take place at the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society’s museum facilities located at 705 Main St, Clifton Forge, Virginia, and will feature a variety of “warehouse finds” entailing histories of railroads throughout the continent.

The special event will utilize the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Heritage Center facilities in Clifton Forge and will see the N&W Historical Society and the C&O Historical Society set up special inventory displays at the museum’s gift shop. The gift shop can be found housed
in a replica C&O Railway train depot.

The Norfolk & Western Historical Society will showcase the historical work of authors such as August Thieme, Ed King, Kenneth L. Miller, Alex Schust, and Louis Newton. Among the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society’s offerings will be titles by Al Kresse, Karen Parker, Dr. Wendall McCord, Thomas W. Dixon., Jr., Dave Ostrander, Charles McIntyre, and Kurt Reisweber. An all-new, color hardbound book celebrating the legacy of famed Chesapeake & Ohio photographer Gene Huddleston will be included as well.

“We are excited for this first-time collaboration with the N&W Historical Society. This type of event, at this time of year, is a good opportunity for the public ahead of the holidays,” said Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Museum President, Mark Totten. “With these new-old-stock books offered by both of our organizations, anyone interested in American railroads can have the gift of history under the tree this year.”

Norfolk & Western Historical Society President, Tim Hensley noted, “This is a joint venture of the two societies devoted to the history of Pocahontas Region railroading. Both roads were particularly devoted to moving coal with notable locomotive designs, but maintained storied, nationally-respected passenger services as well. Expect to see more such cooperatives in the future.”

Additional information on the upcoming Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society and Norfolk & Western Historical Society joint book sale on December 7, 2024, as well as other details pertaining to the C&O Historical Society museum facility, can be found at the C&O Facebook page.
