BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A North Carolina man was arrested on multiple charges following a disturbance at the Allstate Insurance office on East Cumberland Road in Bluefield on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
According to the Bluefield Police Department, officers responded around 3:30 p.m. after an employee reported that a man inside the office had become irate, was threatening to damage property, and had begun breaking items. Dispatchers advised that the victim, who feared for her safety, armed herself with scissors and warned that she would defend herself if the man came toward her.
When officers Patrolman K.M. Tate Jr., Patrolman R.L. Hamm, and Sgt. A.D. Moore arrived, they located the male subject inside the office. He was escorted outside but refused to provide his name or cooperate with officers, police said. The man became hostile, attempted to pull away, and was placed under arrest.
Authorities said while secured in a police cruiser, the suspect began kicking the back glass, bending the door frame and causing more than $2,500 in damage.
The man was transported to the Bluefield Police Department, where he continued refusing to identify himself. A live fingerprint scan conducted by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department identified him as Charles Setzer of Thomasville, North Carolina.
Setzer was charged with assault, obstruction of an officer, and destruction of property. He was booked into Bluefield City Jail.
