OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Kanawha County woman’s visit to Oceana took a violent turn early Friday morning after she was allegedly assaulted during a domestic disturbance on Route 10.
At approximately 12:06 a.m., Oceana Police Patrolman Eric T. Hoosier responded to the intersection of Route 10 and 971 after being alerted by the Wyoming County 911 Center. Wyoming County Sheriff’s Sgt. T. Sizemore, who had come across the incident while on patrol, was already on the scene and pursuing a male suspect on foot.
The man, later identified as Eugene Dewayne Tilley, was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived. He was placed in a patrol car while police investigated further.
According to the victim, she had traveled from Kanawha County to pick up Tilley. She stated that she saw him at the Speedway in Oceana and tried to talk with him, but he began driving erratically in the parking lot. As she and a friend attempted to approach him, Tilley allegedly threw a coffee cup at their vehicle, striking the passenger door.
The situation escalated when the woman exited her vehicle near Route 10 to speak with Tilley. She claims Tilley then “body slammed” her onto the roadway. She later threw a coffee cup at him in retaliation. Officers documented visible injuries on the woman’s shoulder, including a large scrape.
Another woman, who is reportedly currently involved with Tilley, gave conflicting statements, alleging that the victim “threw herself on the ground” and that Tilley never touched her. Tilley also denied the assault at first, stating the victim had hit him with a coffee cup — though no injuries were observed on his face.
However, after being read his Miranda Rights at the Oceana Police Department, Tilley confessed to tackling the woman to the ground.
Eugene Dewayne Tilley was transported to Southern Regional Jail, where he awaits arraignment. He is facing a charge of Domestic Battery, First Offense, under West Virginia Code 61-2-28(a).
