WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – William Junior Maynor, 56, of Oceana, WV, pleaded guilty on October 16, 2024, to Persons Prohibited from Possession of Firearms.
On July 14, 2024, Trooper Phillip Browning of the Jesse Detachment of the West Virginia State Police observed a vehicle with defective equipment and initiated a traffic stop. Trooper Browning subsequently saw the driver, William Maynor, exit his vehicle and reach under the seat. When Trooper Browning asked what Maynor was doing, he replied that he had a firearm in the vehicle. Trooper Browning’s subsequent on-site investigation revealed that Maynor was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Gregory Bishop is the Wyoming County Prosecutor. “This is an example of attentive and proactive police work,” said Bishop. “Trooper Browning’s diligent actions made our county just a little safer.”
Derek Laxton, Wyoming County Assistant Prosecutor, served as lead prosecutor in the case.
Trooper Phillip Browning of the West Virginia State Police Department investigated the crime.

Maynor will be sentenced in December 2024.
