OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Vick Ramsey Jr., 45, of Oceana, West Virginia, pleaded guilty on February 4, 2025, to receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle in Wyoming County Circuit Court.
The case stems from an incident on September 26, 2024, when Corporal Tyler Phillips of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a gas company truck taken without permission. Wyoming County 911 quickly issued a Be On The Lookout (BOLO) alert for the stolen vehicle.
Chief Tyler Dunigan of the Oceana Police Department spotted the truck on the highway and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver, later identified as Vick Ramsey Jr., refused to stop, leading police on a brief pursuit before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Additional law enforcement officers from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office joined the search and ultimately located Ramsey hiding inside a residence. He was taken into custody and later admitted to the crime.
Wyoming County Prosecutor Gregory Bishop praised the coordinated efforts of law enforcement in apprehending Ramsey.
“This is a great example of everyone working together to apprehend an offender,” Bishop said. “Wyoming County 911, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, and the Oceana Police Department performed exceptionally well as a team.”
Wyoming County Assistant Prosecutor Derek Laxton led the case before Circuit Judge Josh Miller. The investigation was conducted by Sergeant Tyler Sizemore and Corporal Tyler Phillips of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, along with Chief Tyler Dunigan of the Oceana Police Department.
Ramsey is scheduled to be sentenced in April 2025. Under West Virginia law, receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle carries a potential prison sentence of one to five years.
