RANDOLPH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man has been arrested after authorities say he used a lost credit card at multiple locations in Randolph County.
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on April 13, 2026, to a report of fraud involving a victim who lives outside the county but had traveled through the area the previous day.
The victim reported receiving an alert that their Discover credit card had been used at a Go-Mart along Beverly Pike near Elkins for a purchase totaling $10.46.
Authorities said the suspect also attempted to use the card at an ATM, which was declined, but still resulted in a $3.00 access fee being charged.
After receiving the alerts, the victim deactivated the card and realized it was missing, believing it had been lost during their visit to Randolph County.
Additional attempted transactions were reported later that day, including a declined $53.69 purchase at Walmart and another declined attempt for $23.31 at Busy Beaver.
While deputies were speaking with the victim, another alert was received indicating a transaction attempt at Busy Beaver.
A deputy who was nearby observed an individual leaving the area with a bicycle and later located a person matching the description near Country Club Road.
The individual was identified as Jerry Ray Helmick. According to the sheriff’s office, Helmick provided deputies with the Discover credit card and admitted to using it after finding it earlier that day near Beverly Pike.
Helmick was arrested and charged with felony fraud involving an access device. He was arraigned in Randolph County Magistrate Court. The case remains pending.
