CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A pedestrian was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 77 in Charleston, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Members of the Turnpike Detachment were dispatched at approximately 6:46 a.m. May 20 to the southbound lanes of I-77 near the 95-mile marker following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, troopers determined the pedestrian had died as a result of the incident.
The victim, identified as a female, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted.
Authorities said the incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be released pending notification of the victim’s family.
As of 9:08 a.m., the scene had been cleared and both southbound lanes were reopened to traffic.
