KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was killed and a woman was injured after downed power lines fell onto a motorcycle Tuesday evening in Kanawha County.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the area of 2452 Rutledge Road around 7:58 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, for a report involving a motorcycle and downed power lines.
Witnesses told investigators that a man and woman were traveling along Rutledge Road on a motorcycle when they encountered a tree that had fallen across the roadway.
The woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, got off while the driver attempted to turn the motorcycle around.
As the driver was turning around, power lines fell onto the motorcycle and the man, causing both to fall to the ground, according to the sheriff’s office. The woman attempted to help the driver but was shocked by the power lines and was unable to assist him.
Authorities said the power lines then sparked a fire that ignited fuel from the motorcycle.
The male driver died as a result of the incident. The female passenger was transported by EMS to CAMC Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The names of those involved were not immediately released.
The incident remains under investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
